I won't miss his mouthguard hanging out of his mouth
The Toronto Maple Leafs traded forward Kris Versteeg to the Philadelphia Flyers for a first-round and third-round draft pick in the 2011 draft. Versteeg was sixth on the team in scoring with has 35 points (14 goals, 21 assists) in 53 games this season.
I was a big fan of Versteeg when the season started but of late he hasn’t been playing that well, and the thing I noticed most about him was all the bad penalty’s he has been taking.
Versteeg will join a Flyers team that leads the Eastern Conference with 77 points. So it looks like the 1st rounder the Leafs got, will be around 25th to 30th in the draft.
Versteeg seems pretty happy to be traded from the Leafs
“Right away I was extremely excited to join this team,” Versteeg said in a statement. “They’ve had a lot of success this season. They had a great playoff push last year and I’m excited to try and have a good one this year.
He also had this to say.
“I like to make plays and score goals at the same time, maybe go out there and be an agitator at times, too. I’m going to try and do it all and have fun doing it.”
That comment makes me laugh a little. “Agitator” ? really..lol
Versteeg has been pretty soft all year and if anybody does hit him he usually retaliates and gets a penalty.
Moving forward I think this is a good deal for the Leafs. You can never have too many draft picks and they just cleared another $3M of capspace for next year.
The Leafs play Boston tonight. Goodluck boys.
Hi Jenna
ReplyDeleteI agree he takes a lot of stupid, relatitory penalties but Steeger is a great stick handler. Him and Colby along the likes of Kaberle, can stick handle around most forwards and defensivemen in the the league. I especially like how Steeger finds the holes in the net and works for his goals. Unlike Kessel, who cherry picks his shots by sitting behind the defense and goal line.
Kris Versteeg was the best signing Burke has made since he arrived. And he could efficiently play in any of the top 3 lines, while contributing both ways at either end of the rink.
I am sorry to see him leave, but I do understand the value of this trade. I would rather depart with Steeger than Kabrele (fingers crossed).
That's my two cents....
