Welcome To The Tdot Joffrey Lupul

The Toronto Maple Leafs just got a lot Hotter :)

Leaf land had something to talk about yesterday when Brian Burke pulled off this deal

To Ducks: Francois Beauchmin
To Leafs: Joffrey Lupul, Jake Gardiner and a conditional draft pick in 2013

Burke had this to say about Lupul

"I bet on Joffrey Lupul because of his character and his skill level and I believe he thinks he has something to prove."

The deal sees Toronto assume some salary because Lupul will earn US$4.25 million over the next two years while Beauchemin has one year remaining on his deal at $3.8 million.

I personally love this deal for the Leafs

Lupul is only 27, and even if he can score 15 to 20 goals a year the Leafs come out ahead in this deal. I am with Burke on that Lupul has something to prove. He has been tossed around like Paris Hilton in the last couple of years, and he wants to show everyone he can still score and that his best hockey playing days are ahead of him.

I had never heard of Jake Gardiner before, but after looking him up he seems like a very good prospect. He was taken only 12 picks after Luke Schenn in the 2008 entry draft so it’s just like the leafs got another top draft pick. That makes me feel a lot better after knowing we gave up two 1st round draft picks for Phil (awkward) Kessel. So far this season at  U of Wisconsin Gardiner has 30 pts in 30 games and is a plus 20. I have a feeling he will go pro next year and will be suiting up for the Toronto Mariles.

I was a pretty big fan of Beauchmin when the Leafs signed him but this year he has been pretty brutal in his own end and seems to be giving the puck up a lot. I also thought he would be fighting more or at least more psychical. I am pretty happy that Keith Aulie is going to be up soon with the big club and logging some major minutes.

What do you think of the trade?
